path

Purpose of Certification

ELSO established an individual certification process to define a minimum knowledge and skills standard for those providing ECMO care. These requirements will standardize ECMO practice across sites and healthcare disciplines, establishing recognition of the unique skill set required for the competent practice of ECMO.

Why Standardization Matters

ELSO has outlined standardized educational criteria for practitioners treating Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal patients. This criterion addresses institutional differences in learning objectives across ECMO education courses, to improve patient care and research.

Our Global Vision

ELSO’s vision is to make standardized ECMO education globally available by providing a syllabus created by an international group of experts to serve as a roadmap for development and enhancement of courses hosted by institutions around the world. This journey is inclusive of the entire ECMO interprofessional team.
